New Homeowners!

Mike and I took the plunge and signed all the papers to our first home! The act of buying a house is a little stressful especially when your realtor calls at 10:30am stressing about a missing form and then the lender calls two hours before closing and says they STILL haven’t verified your employment status. Once Mike and I showed up for the closing, we were greeting with fresh cookies while we stalled on paperwork from HUD. Luckily, they were able to pull everything together and we were able to finish up around 3:30pm.

Once we closed, Mike and I went over to our new home. The realtor had provided the lockbox information and we got the keys in our hands. Now for the moment of truth, what did we get ourselves into?

We popped a bottle of champagne and took it all in. My big question…what was under the carpet in the bedroom? We ripped up the carpet to discover damaged flooring and plywood patched work. Not exactly the look we are going for. 130 years takes a lot out of a house and the floors seemed to have taken the brunt of it. We are going to have to replace the hardwoods and get the floors evened out. Luckily, the HOA may be responsible for the floors since the floor joist seems to be structurally an issue. If not, Mike has already met with a contractor and will get an estimate to jack up the floor and secure the joist.

After feeling a bit overwhelmed with a lot of work and a place all our own. We decided to meet my co-workers for drinks at our local brewery. The Great Divide is a short walk from our new place and will most definitely become our local bar.
